Avignon to Lyon
01 - 11 June 2017

Our cruise was exciting from the beginning. We arrived by taxi at the river where SS Catherine was moored, the site was breath taking. We were met by staff who took charge of our bags and we booked in at the reception although our room was not quite ready. They stored our luggage and suggested we have something to eat as the restaurant was open and lunch was just being served.

After lunch we strolled around Avignon and on our return the Hotel Manager escorted us to our room and showed us “the ropes”. The room was beautiful and very comfortable for the next eight days.

The meals were world class and presented like a masterpiece, very satisfying with plenty of choices and the specialty dinner at Bar du Leopard was amazing. The drinks were ever flowing, except for Southern Comfort which is the only alcohol I drink. They ran out, and we were three days away from Lyon where they could top up the supplies. The bar manager was ever so helpful, she made me beautiful cocktails every evening and nothing was too much trouble.

We loved the choice of tours, especially Viviers, the organ recital and the visit to Francis' (the guide) house was a lovely touch. Everyone seemed to enjoy their special tour offered on this day. From ballroom dancing classes to wine making, all the tours were great and very varied. There was plenty to choose from including an Arles walking tour, the truffle farm, Lyon by night, the go-active hike, Hermitage vineyards and the kayaking on the river Gardon.

Disembarkation was smooth and there were taxi’s waiting to transfer us to the train station.

Overall I can highly recommend Uniworld Boutique River Cruises. Mum and I had the most wonderful time cruising France together, on a beautiful boat.
